Doing nothing – for a few days
Posted by Frank on August 5, 2010
What did I do, when ‘doing nothing‘? I slept, showered, shaved, not necessarily in that order. I ate, I had coffee. I further installed my stuff in my new apartment, re-arranged the furniture, including the kitchen cabinets. These things can take hours, I noticed to my surprise, even though it is a one-room apartment.
I went out for a coffee, browsed a magazine, read a book review and decided to buy the book. Josefin Palmgren, Engangsligg. Saw a guy in a fancy suit. It was blue with broad coloured stripes: bare-ably extravagant for a working suit. The guy disappeared into an office. I looked up a bookstore, and another to find out that the book would be released only next Friday, the 23rd. I went to Slottsparken, to read a book and enjoy the sun. I bought stuff for my new apartment, cleaning utensils, coffee, thea, a bed light, cloth hangers. Silly things actually.
What else? I went looking for iTunes gift cards … that is a nice challenge in a town one doesn’t know very well. For starters, the local Apple dealer does not sell them. ‘You can buy them in the iTunes store’ The guy of course couldn’t know that I needed the card to be able to buy something in the iTunes store … …. never mind that, it’s complicated. The guy also didn’t know where else in Malmö they might be for sale.
And I took it easy. I probably forgot a few of the things I did, but all this took close to three days. It can be done in one. But hey, I was doing nothing.
So, what was doing nothing all about? I did not literally do nothing, but I realised that doing nothing is doing nothing that I have to. Empty agenda, no appointments, no plans, not even the self mad plans. All bets are off. Just go with the flow. Follow the little leads in life. Or not if you don’t feel like it.
