Doing nothing – when Life kicks in

Posted by Frank van der Most on August 16, 2010

‘Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans’ a famous quote – but not from John Lennon. Well, I wasn’t making any plans, for two weeks. Unfortunately, that worked only a few days. Then Life found its way around my little trick. Of course, I had still been making a plan. The plan was to do nothing for two weeks. It was nothing much of a plan, Life has to admit that. It was perhaps the least of a plan one can have. Just ‘do nothing’. But Life is always right: I had it planned in advance and arranged to be so, and she apparently did not appreciate even this minimal version of a plan. I must have really upset her, because she sent in her brother and made me cheat on one of my ‘principles’: I choose to step into a plane. (And boy, was I grateful for being able to do that) After that, she made me pay even more. The next few days were like a roller coaster ride. Fully packed with things that had to be planned and done. Short term planning and implementation from 9.00 in the morning to eleven in the evening, or 2.00 in the morning. No time to stop, think, feel & contemplate. Well, … hardly any.
Still, I could do with some more holidays, to do nothing for a while.
